Philosophy Is Not An Exclusive Club. It's For Anybody Who Questions Her Life And Her Place In The World.

Philosophy is, among other things...
|
-
An entry into the rich and diverse world of ideas and the philosophers behind them
-
The thrill of feeling your eyes quite literally light up as you suddenly grasp something that has previously eluded you
-
Actively reflecting upon things like friendship, caring, passion, justice, sorrow, trust, and our relationships to others, to activities, and the environment.
|
At our spa for the mind we embrace the places where philosophy and activity meet...
-
Our belief is that in creating a reciprocal relationship between activity and philosophy, they enrich each other and make each other more accessible
-
Our intention in twinning philosophy and activity is to encourage and nurture a reflective practice around those things we do
-
We use conversation and table talk to work through those insights and ideas that emerge from your weekend experience with us.

Incorporating a reflective practice into an activity can open up new horizons...

For example, at our wwp scrapbooking weekend we combine hands-on scrapbooking under the guidance of an experienced practitioner, with a philosophical exploration of how stories linked to photographs and other memorabilia help us to probe our emotions, explore our connections to others, and tap into our fondness for past times and special places. One thing is for sure...You'll never look at photographs in the same way again.
Look out for details of our upcoming scrapbooking weekend, being held in 2011.

Experimenting with applied philosophy does not need to stop when the getaway ends...

We have a growing Montreal-based membership that meets on a bi-monthly basis, and is devoted to exploring how philosophy can change our lives. We use a variety of conversational forms and exercises to work ideas that have piqued the interest of our members. Among the areas we have touched upon are:
-
The Philosophy for Children (P4C) programme
-
Women and Obedience
-
Gertrude Stein's 'A rose is a rose is a rose...'
-
The Joys of Carol Singing
-
Sketching character through sport
-
Lao Tsu's 'Actionless Action'
-
Transcendence through Art
-
Approaches to looking at photographs
-
Judy Chicago's 'The Dinner Party'
Being a membership friend allows you to keep in touch with us, with each other, and with new ideas. Find out more about becoming a member on our friends of wwp page. Check out our friends of wwp blog to get a better sense of how our salon evenings unfold.

What Others are Saying
"The interplay of music, discussion, food and wine was beautiful. Also, I noted that our times of greatest discussion took place around the breaking of bread so to speak...This was a wonderful weekend that allowed our voices to blend and our hearts and minds to open to one another."
Marian Phenix attended our Choral Weekend in March 2009
